One year later, the work is still moving
Today marks one year since a turning point in my life.
On September 18, 2025, my employment with Merced Union High School District ended after I had spoken publicly about concerns that mattered to me.
A year later, I am not writing this only to revisit what happened.
I am writing because of what the year taught me.
It taught me that difficult seasons can either leave you stuck or force you to build a stronger way forward.
For me, that path became study, documentation, public information, routines, research, and a growing commitment to helping people ask clearer questions about the systems that affect their lives.
The work is still moving.
When silence becomes part of the record
Today also marks the end of the cure period connected to my California Public Records Act request involving MUHSD.
I gave the district an opportunity to respond and correct the issue before deciding on next steps.
As of this morning, I have not received a response that resolves the request.
I am keeping the documentation organized, the timeline clear, and the next legal materials prepared for appropriate review.
This is not about trying to create conflict.
It is about understanding that public agencies have responsibilities to the people they serve.
California’s Public Records Act gives members of the public a right to request public records, and it requires agencies to make a determination within 10 days of receiving a request, subject to a limited written extension in unusual circumstances. When records are improperly withheld, the law provides a path to seek a court order enforcing access.
The point is simple:
A question deserves an answer.
A request deserves a clear response.
And silence is still part of the timeline.
The work is expanding
This week, I expanded the 209 Audit research into Atwater Elementary School District.
On Wednesday, September 16, I submitted California Public Records Act requests focused on publicly available district information related to special-education expenditures, outside legal spending, vendor disbursements, nonpublic-agency contracts, settlement-related records, litigation authorizations, and official board-action records.
The purpose is not to rush to an accusation.
The purpose is to understand the public record.
The initial statutory determination timeline is now running. Under the CPRA, an agency must determine whether requested records are disclosable and notify the requester within 10 calendar days, unless it provides a valid written extension under the law.law.justia+1
This is what the next stage of 209 Audit looks like.
Not one district.
Not one office.
Not one story.
A broader commitment to understand how public systems make decisions, spend resources, communicate with the public, and respond when people ask reasonable questions.
More clocks are running
The work also continues with other public-information matters in Merced County.
Merced College remains under an active determination timeline following refined requests served this month. The requests seek a clearer understanding of relevant communications and decision-making records.
At the Merced County Office of Education, I am continuing to study public information related to grant allocation, executive communications, and compliance questions.
These are not declarations of guilt.
They are public questions.
The same standard applies everywhere:
Read the record.
Save the source.
Track the date.
Separate fact from allegation.
Identify what remains unanswered.
Explain the issue in language people can understand.
That is what accountability should look like.
Turning experience into study
This week also moved my doctoral work forward at UMass Global in the Ed.D. program in Organizational Leadership.
I completed a major internal environmental scan focused on transforming secondary pupil-services and counseling operations.
The work examines a question I care deeply about:
What happens when school systems shift away from proactive student wellness, counseling access, and human support—and toward defensive bureaucracy, clerical gatekeeping, and administrative insulation?
I am using organizational theory to study those questions with more rigor.
That matters because public accountability cannot be built only on emotion.
It should be supported by research, theory, documentation, lived experience, and a willingness to keep learning.
The goal is not merely to identify what is broken.
The goal is to understand why systems drift, what students and families lose when they do, and what better leadership could look like.
The discipline behind the work
This week also reminded me that progress is not always loud.
Sometimes the most important work is the quiet work:
Resting before burnout decides for you.
Reading before posting.
Writing before reacting.
Preparing before a deadline arrives.
Building routines that let you keep going.
That is why dBeastco Wellness remains part of this larger journey.
I am continuing to build the Morning Intentional Routine Scheduler for people who are trying to create more structure in a demanding season—whether that means school, work, health, caregiving, advocacy, or rebuilding after a difficult chapter.
You cannot always control whether an institution responds.
You cannot always control how long a process takes.
But you can create a more intentional way to meet the day in front of you.

MORNING
One year later
One year later, I am still here.
Still studying.
Still documenting.
Still asking better questions.
Still building a body of work that connects public information, education, leadership, wellness, and community.
The systems may be slow.
The timelines may be long.
But the work is still moving.
If there is a public question, policy, agenda item, or record you believe deserves a closer look, reply to this email. Please send public information or a clear question—not private student data, confidential personnel records, or unverified accusations.
